You can help save Humpback Whales for FREE!

Please sign our petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/36/help-save-the-whales-and-reefs-of-salt-cay and pass this message along to as many people as you can!

Salt Cay is a small island, located in the Turks and Caicos Islands . It is on the migratory path of the Atlantic Humpback Whales. These whales can be seen breeching and playing with their young just off the island. The humpback is an endangered species, as are the turtles and different varieties of coral on the surrounding reef. A development company has recently announced its plans to CONTROL up to 80% of the land mass on this tiny (2.5 square miles) island. These plans include among other things: a golf course and resort, large private estates, new residential areas, condominiums, shops, hotels, and a new MARINA with a proposed 100 foot wide channel to be cut into the middle of the island. This marina is to be situated in the Historical Salinas, where men and women toiled to supply salt to Britain , Canada and the United States . The proposed entrance to this marina, will cut through the off shore reef, damaging and killing the corals, and fish habitat. The proposed channel will create initial, and on going, silting over the surrounding reefs, damaging even more coral and fish habitat. The proposed increase of boat traffic, pollution and noise CANNOT and WILL NOT be helpful or safe for the Atlantic Humpback Whales and their habitat! As stewards of this earth, we must give voice to the whales and the ocean. The knowing degradation of the marine animals and reefs, must be stopped. Please sign the petition below and give voice to your concern regarding the proposed development on the migratory path of the Humpback whales. Perhaps with our signatures we may be able to affect the futures of the whales and the oceans for generations to come.

I'm one of the originators of the Save the Whale Petition. Thank you very much! Every name counts. If it's not too late, can you copy the corrected petition....when I first wrote it I was angry, and used words like WILL, and I should have said POTENTIALLY etc. etc. No big deal, when people go to the petition site, they will see the correction. I've been in the water with these whales and they are magnificant animals. I have been eye to eye with them....and that is my motivation. Thanks for sharing this on your blog page!

BTW - My two daughters are grown up, but I used cloth diapers and still have them for dusting. Pampers had just come out, and all my girlfriends thought I was nuts, but it wasn't a problem, and it was so much better for the environment!thanks again, Elayne
